Dentaid confirms more free dental clinics for patients who don’t have a dentist in Kirklees
Dental charity, Dentaid, has confirmed that a series of free dental clinics and practices will take place in the coming weeks in Kirklees. The charity, which has already hosted a number of drop-in sessions for patients who don’t have a dentist, is returning to the area. The project has been made possible by Kirklees Council and local dental volunteers.
The first free clinic took place on Saturday 8th June and subsequent surgeries are planned for Wednesday 12th June and Friday 14th June. Both clinics and practices will take place at Ravensthorpe Community Centre, which is located on Garden Street. Appointments at the mobile unit will be available between 10am and 4pm.
This will be the third series of Dentaid clinics and practices in Kirklees, and treatments will be provided by local volunteers once again. A small team of dentists and nurses will be on hand to provide pain relief and offer services including extractions and fillings, oral cancer checks, routine examinations and oral health and hygiene advice.
The service is available for patients who are not currently registered with an NHS dentist, and it is designed to make dental care accessible for those who can’t afford dental care and those who don’t have access to an NHS dentist.
In 2019 alone, Dentaid-run clinics and practices have already helped around 200 people in the Kirklees area, but demand for services remains high. Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans, explained that access is an issue in Kirklees and Dewsbury, and as a consequence, previous clinics and practices have been very busy.
